What is a Laboratory / Pharmacy Refrigerator?

Laboratory / Pharmacy Refrigerators are specifically designed refrigeration systems for use in Laboratories and Pharmacies. They are built to a high standard that can withstand more frequent door openings compared to a standard household refrigerator. They are also built using materials that are easy to clean, ensuring a safe and easy to maintain environment for the storage of important vaccines and/or specimens. They are also able to recover faster to temperature fluctuations compared to a standard refrigerator.

How to choose a Laboratory / Pharmacy Vaccine Refrigerator?

Varies factors need to be considered such as physical footprint, volume litreage required, door opening frequency, temperature setpoint, intended use for the cabinet as well as the product temperature tolerances. Understanding the requirements and planned usage will help you identify the right cabinet for your needs.

Comparing selected models and looking through the brochures and manuals can help you get closer to making the correct decision.

Please don't hesitate to contact us, our sales team are always happy to chat with you about which of our products is best suited for you. You can contact us via the contact form found on the Contact Us page or via email info@nuline.au

What are the temperature requirements for vaccine storage in Australia?

5°C degrees is the midway point between +2°C and 8°C, which is the temperature range recommended for vaccine storage. Many vaccines are damaged or destroyed at temperatures outside this range.

The Australian Government has provided a National Vaccine Storage Guideline, "Strive for 5".

The Strive for 5 document explains best practice policies to be implemented  on site to store vaccine safely and to maintain Cold Chain integrity and how to manage power outrages and Cold Chain breaches should they occur.

Following the Strive for 5 guidelines will help ensure that you are implementing "best practice" on site, which also ensuring all key staff are aware of their responsibilities and obligations. More information can be found below on the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing website.

What is a Fan Forced Refrigerators?

Fan forced refrigeration systems work by  forcing cooled air around the cabinet using internal fans. To ensure the proper circulation of air within the cabinet it is best to have all stock placed on the shelves in a single layer to ensure that the fans are not blocked. They are the most common type and are used in Pharmacies, Medical Centre's, GP's, Nursing Homes, Veterinarian, Skin Clinics, Hospitals, Laboratories, ect.

What is a Spark Free Refrigerator?

A spark safe cabinet has been specially designed with all electrical components such as fans, lights and thermostats, which can potentially create a spark, have been removed from inside the cabinet, which is a specific requirement for storing flammable material.

How to measure temperature? Air Temperature vs. Product Temperature
An "air temperature" data logger will read much quicker when opening the door or loading product, whilst a "product temperature" logger will react a lot slower, which is in line with any real changes in actual product temperature.
An "air temperature" data logger can be prone to giving false high / low readings, Nuline recommend the use of our RC-5 Data Logger, or the purchase of a dual temperature logger that reads air temperature and simulated product temperature via probe inserted into glycol.
What is a UPS?

UPS stands for Uninterrupted Power Supply and it is primarily a battery backup system that maintain the running operations of the device, in our case a fridge or freezer, during a mains power outage.

Our UPS also have an inbuilt  "power surge" protection that protects the fridge or freezer that's connected from a sudden surge in power protecting the electronics from potential damage.

We have 3 base model UPS units that are ideally compatible with the HR Range, PR Range and ML Range, more information can be found on the brochure. Note our UPS units are also compatible with many other makes and models of vaccine fridges.

What is Cold Chain?

Cold chain is the management of vaccines from the moment of manufacturing until it is administrated to a patient. The safe temperature for the storage of vaccines is within a range of +2°C to +8°C. Having a purpose-built vaccine refrigerator ensures that the correct cold chain procedures are maintained when vaccines are placed in the fridge until they are administrated.

Do Laboratory / Pharmacy Refrigerators need to be serviced?
Regular cleaning and maintenance of all refrigeration units is highly recommended to ensure optimal performance and long term durability.

We recommend undertaking preventive maintenance at least every 12 months or more depending on usage and the environment that the unit is kept in.

We have a network of qualified contractors Nationally, who have the ability to carry out preventative maintenance work on all brands of refrigeration systems.

To book in a preventive maintenance service, simply fill in the form on our Warranty and Services page and we’ll take care of the rest.

How long is my warranty?

Thank you for purchasing one of our units. As we sell both Australian Made units as well as imported units we have three different warranties.

All of our Australian Made products have a five (5) year warranty against defects in materials, manufacture, workmanship and compressor.

Our HR and HF Range have a three (3) year warranty against defects in materials, manufacture, workmanship and compressor from the date of purchase.

All other Nuline products have a two (2) year warranty against defects in materials, manufacture, workmanship and compressor.

More detailed information can be found on the Warranty and Service page on the Warranty tab.

Can I purchase extra shelves?

Yes, extra shelves can be purchased across the majority of our product ranges, please contact us at info@nuline.au to discuss this.

How much stock can I put on one shelf?
One layer of stock should be placed on each shelf with enough air flow between all stock as well as the interior walls. Maintaining enough room for air flow throughout the unit prevents hot and cold spots forming. Keeping Stock away from the walls ensures that condensation doesn't build up on the walls and potentially drip onto the stock.
What is a S8 Drug Fridge?
A S8 Drug Fridge is a fridge that complies with all the government regulations regarding the correct storage of schedule 8 drugs in pharmacies, hospitals and aged care facilities.
Our ML125 S8 Drug fridge is currently our only ready to go S8 Drug Fridge but we do have the capabilities to convert some of our other fridges to be S8 Drug compliant.
More information about our ML125 S8 Drug fridge can be found on it's product page.
